Made with tallow from antibiotic-free, hormone-free, 100% grass-fed cows that graze on non-chemically treated, non-sprayed fields (we are not technically a certified organic farm, so I cannot use that term here), we add a bit of organic extra-virgin olive oil to soften the tallow, making it easier to spread and whip into a light, fluffy texture. We can also add some essential oils of your choice for added skin benefits and a light smell.
Our tallow is purified several times with the wet-rendering method, to remove impurities while maintaining health benefits. While this process removes most of the beef odor from tallow, it does not remove 100% of the odor. After all, this is fat from a cow, so there will still be a slight smell. Using essentail oils can help reduce this odor.
Remember when using that a little goes a long way! Tallow is nearly bioidentical to human fat, so a tiny amount can moisturize very effectively!
Why use tallow balm for your skin?
Dating back to medieval times, the Romans and ancient Egyptians have used tallow as a miraculous agent of healing for skin. Whether used as a soap, balm, or lotion, tallow has long been touted for its ability to moisturize along with the potential for helping to heal other skin ailments like burns and scrapes.
Tallow is:
- High in vitamins A, D, E, K, and B12
- Rich in minerals
- Contains conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) with natural anti-inflammatory properties
- Palmitoleic acid is a powerful antimicrobial agent that is also a basic building block of our skin
- Palmitic acid helps to improve the function of the skin’s protective barrier
- Stearic acid helps to repair damaged skin and improves the skins flexibility and suppleness
